Hunter Cleans Up at 4th Annual VBBT

August 30 —The team aboard Hunter, a 65' Paul Mann captained by Walt Spruill, cleaned up at the VBBT Awards Celebration Saturday night winning Top Boat Overall, Day 2 Top Boat, Top Overall Angler (Dr. Jose Acostamadiedo released six white marlin), Top Crew and Top Circle Hook Team. The team aboard Hunter released 12 white marlin overall, all on circle hooks, and took home $204,500.
The second through fifth place boats all accumulated 560 points so the final ranking was based on the time of the last release. Second went to Sca Pink, a 52' Buddy Davis with Capt. Kenny Sexton ($77,400); Third went to Special D, a 45' Viking with Capt. Steve Sadowski ($51,600); Fourth went to Just Right, a 56' Viking with Capt. Robert Brown (trophy); Fifth went to Bluewater, a 54' Viking with Capt. Harvey Shiflet (trophy).
Each of the Gamefish winners won $11,333. The Top Dolphin (44.8 lbs.) was caught by Tara Paylor on the Obsession, the Top Yellowfin Tuna (76.1 lbs.) was caught by Allen Palmer aboard the Triflin and the Top Wahoo (42.0 lbs.) was caught by Rachel Davanzo aboard the Backlash.
Top Lady Angler went to Tiffany Griffin aboard the new 63' Jarrett Bay Southern Exposure. Tiffany accumulated 280 points for two blue marlin, one white marlin and one sailfish. Top Junior Angler went to William Wangel, 12 years old, aboard the Fightin' Chance with two white marlin. Other cash awards went to Seven for Day 1 Top Boat (280 pts / $10,500) and Swordfish for Day 3 Top Boat (490 pts / $10,500).

Overall 190 billfish were released: 13 blue marlin, seven sailfish, four spearfish and 166 white marlin.
Any way you look at it, from participation, cash awards, fishing and just plain Fun—the 2007 Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament was one for the record books!
